It should be clean, professional and exude confidence coupled with approachability.
The first thing others look at and make their first impression of you is your face. Headshots focus specifically on the head and face to make your connection to the viewer positive and strong. True headshot photographers interact and coach you in a way so that the images captured elicit genuine emotion and facial expressions, and your final images exude confidence coupled with approachability.
Clean, modern headshots have non-distracting backgrounds and emphasize your face's overall appearance, with the focus being on creating a genuine expression and connection with the viewer, not on your clothing, jewelry, makeup or environment.
Everyone needs a high quality headshot, whether it's for your career, social media, or some other purpose. Your professional headshot is often the first impression someone sees of you, so you want it to showcase you in the best possible way. Headshots can be game changers or deal breakers. You don't want a snapshot, selfie or from a photo "that one time you looked nice at a friend's wedding" when you cropped other people out. The last thing you want is to be judged negatively by a bad image. Many people use professional headshots for their careers, but don't think headshots stop there. Your online presence is more prominent than ever, not only for work and professional social media sites like LinkedIn, but also for your many personal social media platforms. You have the freedom to express yourself and your personality in ways on your personal platforms that you can't on your professional ones.
If you're an established or aspiring professional looking for fresh, modern headshots, don't settle for a photographer who does a little bit of everything and says they "can do headshots too." Many photographers who offer "headshots" really just provide simple, waist up portraits where you just stand there and smile. There's no expression and posing coaching, and no attention to small details. With their generalist approach, using portrait lighting styles, random environments, and their prompt of "smile", or "3, 2, 1", you're guaranteed to come away with a portrait that looks tense, forced, and unnatural. Those viewing your image will notice the tension and see the lack of confidence, approachability and trustworthiness. Remember, a jack of all trades is a master of none. Angell Photography specializes specifically in headshots and portraits.
Most people don't like being in front of a camera and having their picture taken. Don't worry, Troy understands this and is committed to providing you with a comfortable and enjoyable experience so your session is stress-free, easy and fun!
Headshots can be done both in studio and on location. In studio headshots are ideal when you're looking for a simple background in a controlled, indoor environment. On location headshots are better when you're looking for a specific location, environmental background, or you prefer the photographer comes to you.
Most people aren't sure how to prepare for their headshot session. Many will overcompensate because they believe more is better. They will select clothing with bright colors and busy patterns, they will over style their hair excessively, looking unnatural, and if applicable, will use too much makeup and wear excessive or large jewelry. This all takes away from the focus of what the headshot is supposed to be. While they believe it will make their headshot better, if often does the opposite, creating an unnatural look with a lot of distractions.
Not knowing how to prepare is normal, so don't worry. To help with this, I've prepared a checklist for you.
Individual sessions are done in the studio and provide individualized attention. These sessions include personalized expression and posing coaching, wardrobe and look changes, and review of the images throughout the session to make changes or adjustments as needed. During the sessions, detailed attention is given to posing, expressions, hair, makeup and clothing. One (1) high resolution retouched image from the session is included. These sessions are only $299 and are scheduled for two (2) hours, but have some flexibility. Additional high resolution retouched images are available for $99 each.
Express sessions are done in the studio for those who need a single, simple, quick headshot. These sessions are $129 and are scheduled for 15 minutes. They do not include the individualized and personalized attention included in the individual sessions above. These sessions do not include the posing or expression coaching, and do not allow for wardrobe, look or background changes. Image capture, review and selection is done all within the 15 minute session. One (1) high resolution retouched image from the session.
Company, group and team headshot sessions are similar to individual sessions, but for multiple people. There is a discounted session fee for each additional person done on the same day. Each session includes expression and posing coaching, wardrobe changes, different looks, image review during the session, and one (1) high resolution retouched image from the session. Additional high resolution retouched images are available for $99 each.

Angell Photography has a subscription plan for organizations that regularly hire new employees needing needing headshots as part of their onboarding process. This program requires an annual committment and the employess coming to the studio, but you'll recoup your cost by the fourth person, and benefit from significant cost savings for all subsequent employees.
On location headshot sessions within a 50 mile radius of the studio add a $300 location fee per location, per day. On location headshot sessions beyond a 50 mile radius of the studio can vary as they take into account the location distance, travel, equipment transportation, setup and breakdown.
You can use the pricing estimator below to calculate your approximate cost, but should contact us for a more accurate estimate.
Environmental headshots are a great way to have the best of both worlds, they show your employees portrayed in the best way possible while also having eye-catching imagery in the background. The background could be your organization's space or a specific location. If necessary, a background can be added to the headshot afterwards.
These are different from the types of sessions listed above because of the volume of people being done. Each person recieves brief posing and expression coaching, on-site registration, image review, image selection, and instant delivery of images via email or text. As a host or sponsor, you have the ability for branding, host or sponsorship messaging, information collection, lead list generation, and consistent headshots for everyone.
